Landstar BCOs are invited to any of Landstar’s orientation centers for free lunches and a chance to win Landstar prizes Monday, Sept. 10 through Friday, Sept. 14. Lunch will be served at 12 p.m. local time at each of these Landstar orientation centers:

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s annual “Operation Safe Driver Week” begins this week of October 15-21, 2017.
The goal is to improve the driving behavior of all drivers – whether operating a commercial or passenger vehicle. As always, avoid the following dangerous driving behaviors: speeding, distracted driving, texting, failure to use a seat belt, traveling too closely, improper lane changes and failure to obey traffic lights.
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), unsafe driving continues to be the leading cause of crashes: 88 percent of large truck crashes and 93 percent of passenger vehicle crashes are due to the kind of dangerous driving behaviors targeted during Operation Safe Driver Week.
Landstar announces the winner of its Landstar Deliver to Win Truck Giveaway, the first of two new trucks to be given away in 2017. Landstar business capacity owners (BCO), the company’s term for independent truck owner-operators, are eligible to earn entries to win throughout the year.
Landstar BCO Ralph Hall is driving a brand new Peterbilt 579 after winning the semi-truck in a random drawing held Jan. 26 in Jacksonville, Fla. The truck giveaway was the highlight of Landstar’s annual BCO Appreciation Days, a two-day event held to thank the independent owner-operators leased to Landstar for providing excellence in safety and customer service.
Hall was one of five finalists randomly selected from the 170,000 entries.
“I drove it home and I’m still in disbelief. Nothing like this has ever happened to me,” said Hall. The Tennessee resident was also surprised that his 5-year-old grandson’s prediction came to pass. “Trenton said he saw ‘Papa Ralph’ winning a big red truck,” Hall says, explaining that neither he nor the child knew the color of the giveaway truck, which is Pierce Red, before the event.
Landstar President and CEO Jim Gattoni hosted the Landstar Deliver to Win Truck Giveaway, along with representatives from sponsor Comdata.
“It is an honor to award BCOs like Ralph Hall with a brand new truck that can significantly and positively impact their lives,” said Landstar President and CEO Jim Gattoni. “These truck owner-operators are hardworking small businesspeople who are committed to our safety-first culture and provide excellent customer service each day.”
The second truck giveaway of 2017 will be in July during Landstar BCO All-Star Celebration, an annual event held exclusively to honor Landstar Million Mile Safe Drivers and Landstar Roadstars, the company’s highest honor for BCOs.
One lucky Landstar All-Star will drive home from Landstar’s Annual BCO All-Star celebration this week in a brand new 2016 Peterbilt 579. The cherry red Peterbilt 579 features a PACCAR MX-13 engine and 13-speed Eaton Fuller transmission. The truck’s spacious, ergonomic cab and generously sized 80 inch sleeper were designed with operator comfort and productivity in mind.
The interior of the truck features an audio system with satellite radio as well as MP3, USB and iPod options. The cab also features a SmartSound insulation package. SmartSound includes both acoustic and thermal insulated properties within the cab and significantly reduces noise and improves in-cab comfort.
The 579 includes headlamps that are touted as being the safest, the best and the brightest. According to Peterbilt, engineers traveled to 10 different countries testing and improving the headlamps, which resulted in the best down-road visibility and coverage headlamps and fog lamps in the industry.
The Model 579 is built to last. According to Peterbilt, the cab is solid and durable with high quality fit and finish. The in-mold process Peterbilt uses, is designed to embed color directly on to the dash and give the interior of the truck a long-lasting finish, eliminating fading, scratching and peeling.
The Landstar All-Star Truck Giveaway Powered by Comdata will be the grand finale of July’s All-Star Celebration being held at the Hilton Bonnet Creek Resort in Orlando July 1st – 3rd. The event is held each year to honor Landstar Million Mile Safe Drivers and Landstar Roadstars for their safe driving records and professionalism.
While hundreds of Landstar BCOs had great experiences during Landstar’s recent Appreciation
Days in Jacksonville, BCO David Gray might have had the best time of all. That’s because he took home a brand new Peterbilt in the Landstar Deliver to Win Truck Giveaway powered by Comdata.
Gray is the proud new owner of a 2016 Peterbilt 579, viper blue in color and equipped with a 450-horsepower Cummins ISX-15 engine, 80-inch high rise sleeper and Eaton transmission. He is the latest in a long line of BCOs to win a new truck during Landstar events such as Appreciation Days and BCO All-Star Celebrations. Counting Gray’s prize, Landstar has played a part in giving away 31 trucks in the past 21 years.
Gray, who hails from Chatsworth, Georgia, has been with Landstar since July of 2013. He says leasing on with Landstar was the best decision he’s ever made – and not just because he won the truck.
“Winning this truck is a life-changing event…but even before this, coming to Landstar was a life-changing event,” said Gray. “I should have done it a long time ago.”
Stay tuned for more Gray’s story in the upcoming issue of The Road to Success magazine!
More than 100 people turned out this month for a Texas-sized barbeque lunch and the formal grand opening of Landstar’s newest training and service center. The new facility, near the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex, is now providing Landstar Business Capacity Owners a safe and comfortable home away from home.
The $6 million, 10-acre facility provides showers, free laundry equipment, a state-of-the-art truck-driving simulator, classrooms for safety, business and load securement training, as well as onsite staff support for all Landstar BCOs. The new site replaces a now-outgrown property in Grand Prairie which was Landstar’s most-visited field location.
Some specifics about the new location:
• Lounge/breakroom with multiple TVs, tables and chairs
• Free laundry facility with commercial-grade washers and dryers
• Business center with six computers for use by the BCOs, and
• Large, private shower rooms
• Completely paved, fenced and secure parking area
• 140 tractor-trailer parking spaces, plus 150 spaces for cars
• Easy access for trucks from Texas Highway 183, near Highway 360
• Three large classrooms furnished with the latest audio-visual equipment. The classrooms are separated by soundproof partitions that can be folded away to host larger meetings or other company events in a single room.
Congratulations to the Winner of the Landstar All-Star Truck Giveaway Powered by Comdata. Fred Shell won a brand new Peterbilt at the 3rd annual All-Star event celebrating Landstar BCOs who have earned the highest safety honors in the Landstar system.
In addition to the newest classes of Landstar Roadstars and Million Mile Safe Drivers, there were other awards as well. The very first Landstar 45-year Safety Award was presented to Scotty Collett, and the Landstar BCO Lifetime Achievement Award this year honored Ray Dillard, who was the company’s third 4 Million Mile Safe Driver.
Look for more on about these road heroes and the special celebration in the fall edition of Landstar’s Road to Success magazine. We’ll put a link on the blog when the magazine is posted and hits truck stops across the country.
Thanks again to all of our BCOs for making our nation’s highways and byways a safer place!
Safe travels and Happy Independence Day!
The BCO All-Star Celebration is almost upon us. In just days, Landstar Roadstars and Million Mile Safe Drivers will gather for the 3rd annual All-Star event to celebrate the newest class of inductees. This group of elite BCOs and their families will enjoy food, prizes, games, tours of historic Savannah, Georgia, fishing, shopping, and swimming, but even more than all of that, they will enjoy the camaraderie and pride that comes with knowing they have achieved a career milestone.
On average, it takes a truck operator 10 years to travel a million miles. This distance would take the typical driver of a passenger vehicle 67 years – around the time of their 83rd birthday – to complete! And Landstar Roadstars take that career milestone to the next stop. Each Roadstar, previously recognized as a Landstar Million Miler, is chosen for his or her consistently high levels of safety, productivity and excellent customer service.
This All-Star event is our way of acknowledging a highly successful career with Landstar, as well as a way to give back to those who give so much every day. We realize there are a lot of other moments that owner-operators have missed while on the road, and so, this celebration is just for you!
